The lock down fertiliser kit is a simple granular fertiliser pack based on the advice contained in the Bowls Central Sunday Newsletter on 29th March 2020 as follows:

Fertilising

By moving to a completely granular fertiliser regime for this year, you can minimise maintenance activities and keep the green growing and improving slowly and steadily.

Now…Caviar
If you haven’t applied the Spring application of Caviar I recommend to most clubs, then now is the time to get that done. If there is no rain immediately afterwards, then water this in a little to get it started…don’t try to apply enough water to dissolve it, as it takes a good seven days to do this and it is safe to leave the granules on the turf. Make sure you’ve done your mowing before applying this as you don’t want to lift it all off again with the mower.

End of April – Mid May…One bag of 10.3.14 With Thatch Eating Fungi
At the end of April to Mid May depending on growth rate, you should apply one just one bag of our special 10.3.14 with thatch eating fungi fertiliser and water this in lightly if there is no rain. Again sure you’ve done your mowing before applying this as you don’t want to lift it all off again with the mower.

End of May – Mid June…One bag of 10.3.14 With Thatch Eating Fungi
At the end of May to Mid June depending on growth rate, you should apply the next  bag of  10.3.14 with thatch eating fungi fertiliser and water this in lightly if there is no rain. Again sure you’ve done your mowing before applying this as you don’t want to lift it all off again with the mower.

End of June – Mid July…One bag of 10.3.14 With Thatch Eating Fungi
At the end of June to Mid July depending on growth rate, you should apply the next  bag of  10.3.14 with thatch eating fungi fertiliser and water this in lightly if there is no rain. Again sure you’ve done your mowing before applying this as you don’t want to lift it all off again with the mower.

This simple programme will see most greens through the lock-down period if movements are restricted further, which they seem likely to be and can easily be undertaken by one person on the green, spending no more than an hour at the green at any one time.

You can probably get mowing down to once per week using this programme, meaning that monthly maintenance will be minimised to 5 or 6 hours per month depending on watering requirements.
