Description
Overview
Bowls Central Downcast is a non-pesticidal liquid designed to deter surface earthworm activity, helping to reduce disruptive casts on bowling greens and other fine turf. Rather than eliminating worms, it supports a natural approach by encouraging their beneficial activity deeper in the rootzone—improving soil structure without spoiling the surface.
- Visible effect: reduction in surface casts typically in 2–3 days.
- Use window: September–March.
- Programme fit: compatible with Bowls Central’s natural, microbe-friendly maintenance.
Why use Downcast?
- Cleaner surfaces: fewer casts mean truer, faster greens.
- Natural philosophy: non-pesticidal approach aligns with pesticide-free programmes.
- Supports soil health: encourages worms to work deeper where they benefit the profile.
Application rates
Timing | Product rate | Water volume | Interval | Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|
Initial application (Sept–Mar) | 20 L/ha | 250–400 L/ha | — | Use higher water volume for even coverage. |
Follow-up applications | 10 L/ha | 250–400 L/ha | Every 14 days | On sand-based rootzones or with high rainfall, shorten to ~10 days. |
Quick guide for a 1500 m² bowling green
(1 hectare = 10,000 m²; 1500 m² = 0.15 ha)
- Initial application: 20 L/ha × 0.15 ha = 3.0 L product in 50 L water.
- Follow-ups: 10 L/ha × 0.15 ha = 1.5 L product in 50 L water.
Directions for use
- Calculate area and required volumes (see rates above).
- Half-fill the sprayer with clean water and start agitation.
- Add the measured amount of Bowls Central Downcast.
- Top up with water to volume, maintain agitation and apply evenly to the surface.
- Do not irrigate immediately. Allow 2–3 days to see a reduction in casts.
- Reapply while casting pressure persists, adjusting interval to conditions (sand content, rainfall).
Compatibility
No specific tank-mix claims are made. If mixing, conduct a jar test and treat a small trial area first. Keep mixtures well agitated and apply promptly.
