SAND BASED ROOT ZONES for sports turf are essential for maintaining quality surfaces to give the desired root zone characteristics by resisting compaction while maintaining adequate aeration, water infiltration and percolation. However, sand offers little capacity for nutrient or water retention. Conversely when compacted, it holds too much water and prevents plant growth.
NATURAL LONG LASTING MINERAL Mineral Zeolite is a natural silicate volcanic mineral with unique physical, chemical and cationic exchange properties. Its three dimensional lattice allows for a very high cation exchange (130 – 270 meq/100gm) and water holding capacity.
RETAIN WATER AND NUTRIENTS The Mineral Zeolite structure holds up to 40% of its weight in water, drying out thatch on golf greens and worn areas on heavily used pitches. The high cation exchange capacity, CEC, retains nutrients such as nitrogen and potassium and other trace elements and releases water and nutrients into the root zone when the plant demands, thereby reducing leaching losses from ammonium-type fertilisers. If Mineral Zeolite is premixed with top dressing, percolation and porosity will be increased.
APPLICATION AND TIMING To increase drainage, dry out and firm up the playing surface. Apply 0.5Kg – 1Kg per m2, (5-10 tonnes per hectare). Hollow core or solid tine the area to a depth of up to 5cm and brush Mineral Zeolite into the tine holes.
Can be mixed with top dressing. To improve sward growth and reduce fertiliser use Apply 50 – 100gm per m2 on its own through a cyclone or drop spreader. Micro tine the surface and brush or drag the Mineral Zeolite into the holes.
Can be mixed with top dressing or divot mix at any rate and applied to the surface or brushed into holes created by hollow coring or solid tining.
Can be applied at any time of year.
Mineral Zeolite has a CEC of 150 – 190 meq/100gm; pH 7 – 9 and an internal mesopore surface area 29m2 /gm and micropore surface area of 11m2 /gm
