The importance of microbes to us

I regularly talk here about the importance of microbes in our bowling greens and in thinking about our greens as ecological systems rather than a series of symptoms.

The talk below is by  Microbial Ecologist Rob Knight and explains recent discoveries on just how important microbes are to our health and well being too.

Although completely off subject for this site, I thought readers would be interested in the parallels between Rob’s research on the effects of anti-biotics on microbe populations and the effect that perhaps fungicides have on the microbial communities in bowling greens.

Astonishing to learn that each of us has 10 times more microbial cells than human cells too!
