A lot of bowling greenkeepers simply don’t have the time or facilities to brew compost tea regularly enough for it to make a real difference. As a result, I am frequently asked if there is an effective alternative that is easy to use and avoids the brewing process and set up, hence the New, Biology Bundle!

Although, nothing can really take the place of well brewed compost tea, this bundle, when tank mixed comes pretty close and provides a micro-biology boost that encourages the fine perennial grasses to thrive in your green.

The New Biology Bundle comprises the following proven products:

• Gaia Complex Tea Plus (1kg) is a range of soluble powders containing cultures of over twenty micro-organisms in the correct balance to re-populate the turf, soil and particularly the rootzone. Gaia Complex Tea contains a consortium of beneficial bacteria and fungi, which will work in harmony with plants, lessen the chances of establishment of pathogens and improve their immune defence mechanisms
• GaiaTabs (20 Tabs) Beneficial Microbes in Convenient Tablet Form. Easy to use effervescent Tabs containing selected cultures of beneficial bacteria and fungi which will work in harmony with plants, lessen the chances of establishment of pathogens and improve plant immune defence mechanisms.
• Gaia Boost Plus (20 litres) is a rich food source for soil biology. Rich in amino acids and organic matter and contains humic and fulvic acids plus fermented molasses, macro and micronutrients and has a significant plant bio-stimulant properties which provide an effective and available source of carbon energy and carbohydrates to feed and stimulate the growth of beneficial microorganisms.

For a typical bowling green application (1500m²) these 3 powerful materials are tank mixed into one application and applied as follows:

Method

Half fill the spray tank with water, then add Gaia Boost Plus and Gaia Complex Tea Plus. Top up the tank to the full mark and then add GaiaTabs. If using more than one sprayer tank to cover the green, divide the materials evenly between the total number of tanks, making sure to adhere to the recommended minimum water volumes.

Timing

Apply once or twice monthly between March and November, preferably after pencil tine aeration or sarrell rolling. In dry conditions, irrigate the green before, or just after application.

Applications

The bundle contains enough material to complete 10 full bowling green applications.
